Twin Cities East Chapter #299 A Not for Profit Organization About "Mothers & More" Mothers & More is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving mothers’ lives through support, education and advocacy. Many women approach motherhood with a particular plan or set of expectations about what their post-pregnancy work and care-giving lives will be like, only to discover the realities of workplace, public policy, personal finances, and childcare arrangements do not support that vision. Mothers turn to Mothers & More as means of redefining their goals and identities as women; examiningfurther options; and sharing in the experiences and expertise of fellow mothers. Regardless of their currentemployment situation, 94% of members nationwide say they have altered their work participation in someway since becoming/as a result of becoming a mother. Founded in 1986, Mothers & More is unlike any other member support organization. We are an active and vocal advocate for mothers, generating awareness and discussion about how public policies, work place practices and cultural attitudes often devalue, downplay, or disregard the care-giving work essential to families. At the same time, Mothers & More provides a support system where mothers connect to discuss real experiences, real lives and real motherhood regardless of their employment / parenting situation or kids’ ages.
About the Twin Cities East Chapter Founded in June 2006 by women who had participated in other Mothers & More chapters, Twin Cities East includes Woodbury, Lake Elmo, Oakdale, Stillwater, Mahtomedi, Cottage Grove, and nearby communities in Washington County and the St. Croix Valley. To date, we have welcomed over 80 women as members who generally range between 30 – 50 years of age and have children from infancy through college-age. Each member has made distinct decisions about combining career and caregiving work in order to meet changing family needs and circumstances. Some are at-home caregivers on a full-time basis, looking ahead to when they will resume career paths or embark on new directions. All have adapted workplace participation since becoming mothers, i.e., some combination of part- or full-time employment outside the home; continuing education; and/or entrepreneurship. Our goal is to support all mothers, whatever their situations. Members reflect a range of industries and expertise: • Medical Doctor • Nursing • Pharmacy • Registered Dietician • Engineering • IT Consultant • Change Management • Entrepreneur / Business Owner • Human Resources • Paralegal • Retail • Actuarial & Accounting • Sales & Marketing • Social Worker • Health Insurance Services • Higher Education • Secondary Education • Early Childhood / Family Education • School Administrator
Chapter Meetings and Local Events Twin Cities East hosts chapter meetings on the 1st Wednesday and 3rd Tuesday of each month – newcomers are welcome to attend and experience Mothers & More firsthand. Meeting topics reflect mothers’ lives along core themes -- Relationships, Identity, Career / Work / Volunteerism, and Financial Confidence. We also hold regular social, networking, and educational events each month just for mom and activities to share with our kids. Please contact Twin Cities East at 651.204.0071 or mothersandmoretce@yahoo.com to ask questions about membership and to receive email alerts about upcoming chapter events. Scheduled events with children are reserved for members in the interest of creating a safe environment for moms and kids alike.
